Obituary
Susan Rebecca (Davis) daughter of Blanche and George Davis, was born near Eagleville, Mo., April 2, 1853, and passed away at the home of her son, Elmer Huit, November 4, 1928, at the age of 75 years 7 months and 2 days. Deceased was a pioneer of Harrison county, Mo., having lived practically all of her life in the neighborhood of Eagleville. She was united in marriage to Israel Huit April 5, 1871. To this union 11 children were born. All except two grew to maturity and the influence and admoition of Mother Huit in helping to mould the lives of good citizens, shows what a frail little woman with that deep motherly love can accomplish. The husband preceded her in death January 19, 1914.
Mother Huit ws taken ill while visiting in the home of her son, Elmer, and gradually grew worse. The children residing a distance from here were notified of her alarming conditon, and with the exception of Mrs. Etta Thompson, of Ross ,Wyo., who was unable to come, all the children were with their mother during her last illness and loving hands adminstered did everything possible for her, but the summons came Sunday noon, November 4, and Mother Huit answered the call and quietly passed away. Her spirit took its flight and returned to the God of love, the Ruler of all.
By request of Mrs. Huit, her body was brought to her home in Eagleville Monday afternoon, November 5, that the last night should be in her old home she loved so well and where she lived so long.
Funeral services were held from the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon, November 6, conducted by her pastor the Rev. A.J.Wallace in the presence of a large assembly of friends. There were beautiful floral offerings as tokens of esteem in which, she was held. The body was interred by the side of loved ones in the old cemetery west of Eagleville. Those surviving who mourn her departure are four daughters Mrs. May Tripp, of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Dora Keyser, of Nebraska City, Nebr., Mrs.Belle Hadkey, of Kincaid, Kas.,Mrs. Etta Thompson, of Ross, Wyo., four sons, Elmer Huit and Henry Huit of Blythdale, Mo., Loid Huit and George Huit of Eagleville, Mo., grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends.
To the writer only pleasant thoughts dwell in my mind for the little pioneer woman who greeted her friends with a smile, a kind word and in droping the curtain I close with a vision above all a sweeet Christian character of a kind mother, a good neighbor and having set her house in order to be ready for the summons when the call came that her work was finished and Mother Huit crossed the river to the home prepared for her.
