Born May 13, 1919, in Zebulon, NC, he was the son of the late George and Lula Brantley Baines. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and was part of the "Greatest Generation." Mr. Baines had retired as Bridge Superintendent with Bowers Construction of Raleigh, NC. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, American Legion, Pineview Ruritan Club, Voiture 1211 - 40 & 8. He was also active in Zion Lutheran Men's Bible and Biscuit Thursday and Zion Lutheran Men in Mission.
Mr. Baines is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Shealey Baines; a son and daughter-in-law, Prescott S. and Betty Ann Baines of Lexington; two granddaughters, Dr. Beth A. Browne and husband, Dr. Louis Browne, of Greenville, SC, and Janie R. and Chris G. Neeley of Clemmons, NC; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tuck, Kathleen, and Nick. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, George, Joseph, and Redmond; and sister, Margaret Baines.
The family is grateful to the staff of Ascension Hospice for their loving care and support during this time. The family has entrusted Woodridge Funeral Home with the arrangements.
