Elvin Bryan Bates, 74, of 111 North Line St., West Columbia, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church in Cope with the Rev. Chuck Wells officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bates was born April 5, 1930, in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Eugene Jerome Bates and the late Ruth Sanford Bates. He was a self-employed painter and a member of Two Mile Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bates; and a son, Edward "Eddie" Bates.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Parker Stowman and Lynn and Charles Moore, all of Port Noris, N.J.; two grandchildren, Melanie Calisti and Alan Moore, both of Port Noris, N.J.; and a number of cousins.
Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.
