Ernest E. Robinson, Jr. was the son of the Rev. Ernest Ellsworth Robinson and his wife, Emma Maude Heaslip Robinson. He was the first son and second child of the couple. He was known both as "Ernie" and "Junior."

Ernie Robinson married Muriel Streeter on March 12, 1946. She was often called "Peg," although she preferred Muriel. She collected bells, shared her recipes and was great at making crafts.
