John was born in Lipan, Texas, to the late James L. and Maggie M. Brown. He had lived in Longview for the past five years, moving here from California where he resided most of his adult life. He was a retired Manager of a Pontiac car dealership in California. He was a member of the North Hollywood California Lodge # 542. On July 2, 1996, he received his 50-year certificate from the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of the State of California.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise, on August 31, 1995.
Survivors include a nephew, Preston Brown, of Longview; and eight more nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
