COLUMBIA - In the early morning of Sunday, January 6, 2013, Mary Muriel Ayer Price "Peepsie", 87, was gently taken to her new residence in Heaven. A service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Born in Bamberg, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Allan and Corine Henderson Ayer. She grew up in the Colston Community in Bamberg County, graduating from Bamberg High School and attending U.S.C., having moved to Columbia in 1942. She worked as a part time bookkeeper in her husband's business, D.S. Price Produce Co. She was a Charter member of Kathwood Baptist Church, where she was involved in numerous church activities. She was always active in her children's school and extracurricular activities such as homeroom mother and Cub Scouts den mother. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara D. Price of West Columbia; son, Dial S. Price Jr. (Lee Ann) of Columbia; sister, Margaret Redpath of High Point, N.C.; brothers, Bobby Ayer of Swansea, Ted Ayer of Bamberg; and two beloved grandchildren, Maureen and Ashlee Price. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dial Smith "Bunk" Price Sr.; and four brothers, Glenn, Avery, Frank and Billy Ayer. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and professional staff at NHC Lexington for the medical care and sincere compassion and dignity shown during her 5 ½ years as a resident. A special thanks to Sarah Charley, Louise Bamberg and Lila Bennett for their loyal friendship and service. Many thanks to Lighthouse Hospice for their knowledgeable care and support. We would have been lost without the love and support of the wonderful Kathwood Baptist Church family. Memorials may be made to Kathwood Baptist Church, 4900 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
