Dr Robert Haile Latane
In the death of Dr Robert Haile Latane, which occurred last Saturday, Buchanan and Botetourt county has lost one of their best beloved and most highly esteemed citizens and physician. In his more than forty years of professional service in this section he had so endeared himself to all our people as to leave indelibly stamped on their minds a memory akin to that of a Good Samaritan. Always kind, considerate and generous, he was never too busy nor fatigued to respond to the call of the sick, the needy and afflicted. So truly the passing of this good man and talented physician leaves a void in this community which only time can erase.

It was with much sorrow and regret that the people of Buchanan and vicinity learned of the death of Dr Robert Haile Latane, well-known physician who died Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at St. Alban's sanitarium, Radford, VA., in the 70th year of his age, after a protracted illness.
Dr Latane was born in King and Queen county, and after graduating from the University of Virginia, attended Richmond Medical College, where he received his degree.
He came to Botetourt in 1882 and had practiced his profession here for over forty years, retiring from active practice five years ago. Besides his professional activities Dr Latane was postmaster here for eight years under the Wilson administration, and also interested in other business enterprises.
He is survive by his widow, Mrs Clara Wyatt Latane, of Buchanan; three sisters, Misses Elizabeth and Blanche Latane, of Richmond, and Miss Mary Peachy Latane, of King and Queen county, and one brother, Dr Tommy Latane, of King and Queen county.
The funeral services were held from the Buchanan Baptist church of which he had long been a member, Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev D E Murray, assisted by Rev Dr Owen, pastor of Calvary Baptist church Roanoke.
Interment was in Fairview cemetery.
