Grant W. Anderson, 98, a resident of the Ontario County Nursing and Health Care Facility, formerly of Westman Road, Bemus Point, N.Y., passed away at 1:34 a.m. Friday (Dec. 21, 2012) in the Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua, N.Y. He relocated to Ontario County to be closer to his family after his wife passed away in 1999.
A Chautauqua County resident for most of his life, he was born May 19, 1914 in the Town of Ellery, a son of the late Aaron P. and Minnie Wing Anderson.
Before his retirement in 1976, he was employed for 35 years for the former Malleable Iron Corporation.
He was a lifetime member of the Falconer Odd Fellows Lodge, formerly of the Bemus Point IOOF, which he joined in 1943 and a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Grant was also in the CCC Camp program in his earlier years as well.
Surviving are two sons, Robert J. Anderson of Clifton Springs, N.Y. and Phillip G. Anderson of Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren, Julie (Christian) Dore of Rockland, Mass., April (Toby) Louris of Greer, S.C., Craig (Terry) Anderson of Cary, N.C., Bradley Anderson of Canandaigua, N.Y. and 10 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lillian M. Swanson Anderson whom he married Sept. 26, 1940 and who died June 19, 1999; four brothers, Joseph, John, James and Albert Anderson; and two sis-ters, Emily Morse and Alice Elmeer.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel G. McBride, pastor of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home.
