FINAL RITES HELD HERE FRIDAY FOR ETHEL COPELAND

Funeral services were held here Friday for Ethel May Copeland, widow of the late Fred Smith Copeland, who was vice principal of Porterville high school for 23 years.
She died Monday in Portland, Ore., after three months of hospitalization.  During a year and a half of illness, she was cared for by a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Tedd of West Linn, Ore.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska in 1909, Mrs. Copeland taught for eight years, usually in schools where her husband was superintendent.  They came to California from Captain, N.M., in 1925, and after his retirement from Porterville high school they moved to West Linn, Ore.
She was active in dramatic and musical circles and in church and women's club work.  Mrs. Copeland was a member of the First Methodist church for 20 years and was a past president of the Porterville Women's club.
Other affiliations included Douglas chapter 248, Order of Eastern Star at Douglas, Nev., the Inter Se literary club, and the American Association of University Women.
She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliay at Bridgeport, Neb., where she helped organize one of the first Legion auxiliaries after World War I.
She leaves two other brothers, C.T. Tedd of Corpus Christi, Tex., and E.W. Tedd, Lincoln, Neb., and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Terence Stoker and Rev. Clifford Ford officiated.  Violet Bigham was vocalist.
Pallbearers were George Kralowec Sr. and Jr., Charles Patmore, L.O. Hepp, Elmer Hubble and Earl Zalud.
Interment was in Home of Peace cemetery.
