Walter E. "Jiggs" Caulk, 86, of Elizabethtown, Ky., formerly of Campbellsville, died on Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Elizabethtown. Son of the late Steven Douglas Caulk and Ida Sullivan Caulk, he was born on June 28, 1915, in Taylor County, Ky., and was a lifelong member of Good Hope Baptist Church. Caulk was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the European campaign, and was a recipient of three major battle stars, and the Purple Heart. He also served as Taylor County Deputy Sheriff for eight years. He was married to Virginia Akin on Dec. 21, 1938, who survives. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Fred Clem Jr. of Elizabethtown; one granddaughter and her husband, Laura and Matthew Hess of Elizabethtown; one great-grandson, Tanner Creighton Hess of Elizabethtown; and two sisters, Redmond Hill and Hallie Booth, both of Hinckley, Ill. He was also preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers, Susie Griffin, Monta O'Banion, Ada Reynolds, Mary Reynolds, Gertrude Reynolds, Woodrow Caulk, Floyd Caulk, Leland Caulk and Willard Caulk. Funeral was at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 17 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. The Rev. J. Alvin Hardy officiated. Pallbearers were Robbie Akin, Rocky Akin, Brian Kerr, Jeff Loyall, Lynwood Newton and Mike Russell.
