Nettie Hamilton Mercer, 94, 20 Aug 1901, of Route 1, Hortense, formerly of Dinsmore, FL, died Thursday night, 9 Aug 1996, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, following a long illness.

A native of Jackson County, FL, she was a daughter of the late John Hull Hamilton and Caroline Owens Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer L. Mercer and her son, Fauline Mercer. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Edna Lloyd of Callahan, FL and Elma Hand of Jacksonville, FL; three sons, Jessie Mercer and Frank Mercer, both of Hortense and the Rev. Willard Mercer of Middleburg, FL; 25 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, from Nahunta United Methodist Church with Rev. Willard Mercer, Rev. Orville Ferris and Rev. Leonard Owens officiating.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in the Dinsmore Community Cemetery in Dinsmore, FL.

Casketbearers were her grandson, Victor Mercer, Shelton Mercer, Michael Mercer, Randy Hand, Rodney Hand and Ronnie Gordon.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.
