Parents Leonard Arthur and Bertha Lovell Watt. His mother died May 2,1920 of kidney disease and his father moved to St. Louis, Missouri, September 1920 and married Lula Heard August 29, 1921. She loved him as her own son. Family moved to McLeansboro, Illinois in 1922 and in 1926 moved to a 180 acre farm near Norris City, Illinois. Enlisted in service in December 1939, received basic training at Fort McKinley, Maine. His unit, The 68th-Coast Artillery was the first to arrive at Camp Edwards. Stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey Before going overseas 31 months before his death. Was serving with an anti-aircraft unit of the 7th Army in Austria when killed in action. The letter received by his wife Natalie was wriiten by Captain David H. Haire, chaplin, "at the time of his death his battery had been giving anti-aircraft protection to the field artillery and the airplanes used by them for observation purposes. They were pulling back to the bivouac area. Burial services were conducted by a Protestant chaplain. Remains returned to Illinois for burial at Hebron Cemetery February 4, 1949.
Married Natalie C Pedro, October 16, 1942 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Daughter of Gabriel and Mary Celeste Pedro.(Immigrants from Portugal.) Born March 18, 1923 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. James and Natalie lived in West Barnstable, Massachusetts and she continued to live there with her parents.
