On 7 Jan 1844 Horace Day, 18, married Miranda Bates at Thompson, Windham County, Connecticut. They had at least seven children.

On 12 Jul 1861 Horace, a shoemaker, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.

He was wounded on 21 Oct 1861 at The Battle of Ball's Bluff, Leesburg, Virginia.


On 30 Oct 1861 in the "Worcester Spy," Horace was included among "The Killed Wounded and Missing of the Fifteenth Regiment," after Ball's Bluff.


On 25 Apr 1862 Horace mustered out of the 15th Massachusetts.


He made application for a veteran's pension on 28 Jul 1868, received certificate number 10005.


He died on 6 Jul 1903 at Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 78 years and 2 months old.
