A. Roelofs Of Rock Valley Passes On
Allen Roelofs, a well known resident of Rock Valley for over thirty years, died at his home Monday night. May 1, 1939. Mr. Roelofs came to Rock Valley shortly after coming to Iowa in 1891.
Mr. Allen Roelofs was born at Drenthe, Mich., July 15, 1866, where he grew to manhood and
came to Sioux county and attended Northwestern Academy in Orange City, where he graduated from the school. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Haverkamp at Orange City on August 2, 1899.
Mr. Roelofs was in business in Rock Valley up until three and a half years ago whe he retired from business on account of ill health.
Mr. Roelofs was 72 years, 9 months and 16 days of age at the time of his passing. For nearly thirty years of his life he was an elder of the First Reformed chrch and a teacher in the Sunday school.
Beside his widow he leaves his two sons, Dick and Harold, four brothers, and two sisters, namely, John of Edgerton, Minn., Henry, Fred, Bert of Zeeland, Mich., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1:30 at the home and at the First Reformed church in charge of Rev. H.J. Aberson on Thursday. Rev. H. Colenbrander of Orange City and Rev. John De Jongh of Rock Rapids assisted in the services.
The out-of-town pastors were former pastors of the local church. Burial was made in the Valley View cemetery.
Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were E. Poppen, Matlock, Mr. and Mrs. George
Haverkarnp, Orange City, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Schultz and Mr. John Kleyn of Orange City, Mr. and Mrs. John Roelofs of Edgerton, Minn.. Drs. Henry and Gene Jongewaard of Jefferson.
