---Harold was the youngest of four sons of Walter Gayhart Garms and Easter (Byers) Garms. His brothers were Wayne Garms -1918, Berna Walter Garms -1921, and Glenn Eugene Garms-1926.

---Harold married Cleta Allya Mattiza on May 24,1954 in Brownwood, Texas. They had one daughter, Stacey Garms ( married).

---Harold graduated from Albany HS in 1946 then attended and graduated from Howard Payne College where he played football. He later taught/coached in Midland for five years where one of his athletes was the future General Tommy Franks who was in command of the Iraq invasion in 2003. Harold then moved to Andrews and taught there until his retirement.
