Diana Piedra D'Avino was the daughter of Madeline D'Agostino Piedra of New York and Ramón Piedra of Havana, Cuba. She was the granddaughter of Diana Capasso D'Agostino and Francesco D'Agostino, and the great granddaughter of Filomena and Santo Capasso, prominent New Haven Italians.

She had three daughters with her 1st husband, Sidney Rennert between 1953 and 1960.
Diana and her second husband, Ralph D'Avino spent many happy years together before her death.
