He was a carpenter and served in the War of 1812. He married Mary Lord (6 Feb 1813 in Maine). She was born in Oldtown, ME, 9 Nov 1798; died Polk Co, OR, 11 Mar 1871. He died June 1835 in Alton.

Israel Ingalls and Mary Lord; and a descendant of a prominent New England family. The Ingalls were descended from EDMUND INGALLS who came from England with Gov. Endicott's company in 1628 and founded Salem, Massachusetts. Over 100 Ingalls served in the Revolutionary War. Israel Ingalls' family went to Oregon in 1852.

Mary traveled the Oregon Trail in 1852, with her two remaining sons, following the death of her husband. Son, Lyman, was deaf and dumb as a result of scarlet fever. Lyman died while on the trail (Cholera) and was buried in the Indian Nations. Mary resided with her daughter Elizabeth (Ingalls) Butler in Monmouth, Polk Co, Oregon, until her death.
