MAN, 77, DIES OF INJURIES BY RUNAWAY TRUCK
David Souders, 77, .... died in St. Mary's hospital at 2:15 p.m. Saturday of injuries received shortly before 10 a.m. when he was struck by a runaway truck in a vacant lot next to his home while feeding his goat. ....

THE DRIVER .... of Blue Mound, had gone across the street to inquire where he was to unload 1,700 pounds of sand and two sacks of cement which had been ordered by a neighbor.

The driverless truck started rolling down the inclined street, crossed to the south side, jumped the curbing and went down a three-foot drop in the vacant lot. ....

AS THE TRUCK shot across the front of the vacant lot, it was reported that it approached the elderly Mr. Souders from an angle. Mr. Souders was said to be somewhat deaf, and apparently did not hear the noise of the approaching truck. .... (continues in lengthy detail)

Mr. Souders was born Jan. 10, 1870. He leaves two brothers, Birt of Decatur, and Charles of Peoria, in addition to four half-brothers, Ben, Sherman, and Bert H. Souders, of Decatur, and Alonzo Souders, of Danville.
