Edward Ed J. James, 78, of Etowah, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Woods Memorial Hospital.

A native of Etowah, where he lived all of his life, he worked in the insurance business for 25 years; he loved people and was very generous during his life. He was an active member of Brookhill Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran. A son of the late Clifford and Elsie James, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, C.W. James; and several aunts and uncles that were instrumental in his upbringing

Survivors inculde his wife of 53 years, Helen James of Etowah; one daughter, Cindy J. James of Etowah; one son and daughter-in-law, E. Perry and Janice James of Knoxville; one granddaughter, Sara Kaufman; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Grace and Titus Kaufman; a special aunt, Barbara Reynolds of Knoxville; and many countless friends that he loved and cherished.

A special thank-you to the Internal Medicine Group, especially Dr. Ghazali Khan.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Higdon officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ode Lanning, Robbie Shearer, Norman Wilson, Jason Wilson, Burt Jenkins and Tom Aderhold. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles England and Bill White.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Etowah Food Pantry c/o Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 923 Ohio Ave., Etowah, TN 37331; Miracle Lake, 182 County Road 498, Etowah, TN 37331; or Brookhill Baptist Church Music Ministry, 700 14th St., Etowah, TN 37331.
