Mrs. Amanda Coltrane

Amanda Edith, daughter of Stanley and Elizabeth (Sherwood)Frazer, was born near Olin, Iredell county, North Carolina, March 4, 1862, and departed this life, after an illness of nearly three months, at her home near Stockport, Iowa, Sunday morning, March 10, 1935, age 73 years and 6 days.
The summer she was six years old she came with her parents, overland in a covered wagon to Indiana, where they lived 18 months, then moved to a farm in Decatur county, Iowa.
Here she grew to womanhood and had the chance to make a noble woman that a kind family, good society, school and church privileges afforded - and she availed herself of the opportunity.
It was in Dectur county that she taught her first term of school. Later when the family moved to Van Buren county she continued her occupation of teaching for a total of six years.
On December 24, 1884 she was united in marriage to John L. Coltrane, of Stockport, Iowa. To this union were born three sons and two daughters, Claude of Des Moines, Floyd, of Stockport, and Bethel of Fort Madison, Mildred and Hazel at home.
The husband and father departed this life on March 22, 1927.
Besides the above children she leaves two sisters, Mrs. W.S. Anderson, of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and Mrs. J.W. Graber, of Fairfield, Iowa; six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
Two sisters, Mrs. George Endersby and Miss Nannie Frazer also preceded her in death, also a brother, who died in infancy.
She was a Christian from childhood and a charter member of Hickory Grove Friends church which is near her home.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Allison and Rev. McCargar. Interment was in the Hickory Grove cemetery.
