Funeral services for Mrs. Eli
Smith, 93, formerly of Fonda,
will be conducted tomorrow.
Mrs. Smith died yesterday at
the Eden Park Nursing Home in
Troy after an illness of two
years.
Born in Fonda, the former
Gertrude Fonda, she was graduated
from the Fonda High
School where she taught after
graduation. She was the widow
of Eli F. Smith, who died in 1952.
Active in the Berryville Sunday
School before her illness.
Mrs. Smith was a member of
St. Paul's Lutheran Church of
Johnstown and a former member
of the Order of the Eastern
Star of Johnstown and the Fonda
Grange.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Mercy S. Ford of Albany EDIT: Mercy Smith was not Gertrude's daughter, however she was Eli Smith's daughter by first marriage;
a brother, Frank Fonda of Glens
Falls; two grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren, and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted
at 1 p.m. tomorrow at
the Jackson Funeral Home in
Fonda, the Rev. Bruce Miller of
the United Fourth Presbyterian
Church of Albany officiating
Burial will be in Ferndale Ceme
tery, Johnstown.
