Gerald Douglas Fussell, 59, of Henderson, passed away on December 7, 2012, with his wife and daughters at his side, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Henderson with Dr. David Higgs officiating. He will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Gerald was born in Minden, Louisiana, to Guy Douglas and Dollie Belle Fussell. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975, and four days after being discharged, Gerald married his sweetheart, Becky.

Gerald retired after working 30 years as a technician with Texas Utilities, where he was revered as "the wise old man in the shop."

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and the friends he came to know in his Sunday school class strengthened him throughout the latter part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dollie Belle Emerson Fussell; and his brother, Dennis Fussell.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Fussell; daughters: Casey Axelrod and husband, Greg, of Cypress, Texas, Kelly Gavin and husband, Seth, also of Cypress, Texas, and Carrie Bickley and husband, Josh, of Austin; grandchildren: Grant and Emily Axelrod, Addie, Stewart, Charlie, and Ellie Gavin; his father, Guy Fussell, of Minden, Louisiana; sisters: Sandra McNatt and husband, Frank, of Haughton, Louisiana, Sharon Walker and husband, Earl, of Homer, Louisiana, Sheila Austin and husband, Sam, of Paducah, Kentucky, and Ginger Savage, of Minden, Louisiana; his close friend, David Clifton, of Henderson, Texas; other relatives and many friends.
