"Valparaiso.
"Catherine, the little 18-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Stoner, was frightfully burned about the head, body and arms Tuesday morning about 11:30 o'clock at the family home on East Erie street.

"The little one, with a child of about the same age, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Stoddard, were playing in the parlor and in some manner got hold of several matches, which were ignited, setting the clothes of the Stoner child on fire.

"Mrs. Stoner, who was in an adjoining room, heard the cries of the children and rushed into the room and found her little one a mass of flames. She grabbed the child and ran out of the house into the yard where she succeeded in extinguishing the flame though not until she was also badly burned about the hands and arms.

"Physicians were hastily summoned and the little one's wounds were dressed. The recovery of the child is doubtful.

"A sofa caught fire from the burning clothing, but the flames were extinguished by the neighbors though the fire department was called out."
