Found in The State 17 February 1989: Mrs. Eloise Hamtpon Wallace, widow of James M. Wallace, died on Thursday. Born in Columbia in 1900, she was a daughter of the late George McDuffie and Mrs. Eloise Urguhart Hampton. She was the last living grandchild of Wade Hampton III, governor of South Carolina, U.S. Senator and General in Command of the Confederate Cavalry after Jeb Stuart was killed. As a child she unveiled the monument to Wade Hampton on the State House grounds. She was first married to the late Charles W. Oliver, a noted architect in Texas, where she participated in social and civic affairs and was a charter member of the River Oaks Garden Club of Houston. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Surviving are sons, Wade Hampton Oliver of Columbia and Charles W. Oliver, Jr. of Saluda. Private services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elmwood Cemetery.
