Mrs. Anna Louise Quenelle Carvel, 100, died Friday morning January 26, 1968, in Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient a little more than a week.

Last April 11 when Mrs. Carvel reached her 100th birthday, she received the apostolic blessing from Pope Paul VI:

"Most Holy Father, Mrs. Anna Carvel, on the occasion of her 100th birthday April 11, 1967 humbly begs a special apostolic blessing as a pledge o divine graces and favors." A picture of Pope Paul was also sent.

Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Franklin H. (Mary) LaRue, Route 3, Mrs. Theresa Hatton, Route 3, Mrs. Myrtle O'Connell, Burlington, VT, Mrs. Lawrence (Helen) Terry, Troy, Mrs. Seymour (Ann) Kiernan, Plattsburgh, Mrs. Allen A. (Elizabeth) Sutton, Oroville, CA, Mrs. Morgan (Jean) Avilson, Columbus, OH, one son, Clifford J. Carvel, Massena; 49 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Carvel was the last of her family. Four brothers and three have predeceased her.

Mrs. Carvel was born April 11, 1867 in the Maple Ridge area of the town of Brasher. Her parents were Paul and Adeline Lashomb Quenelle. She attended district schools and married John Carvel in 1890. They were farmers in the Helena area. Eight children were born to the couple, all of whom are surviving. Mr. Carvel died in 1905, thus Mrs. Carvel has been widowed 63 years.

After her husband's death, she and her children moved to Helena. In 1919, she bought the property at 203 East Orvis Street, and had since resided here.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
