Melvin M. Myers, 69, of Harveys Lake, died Wednesday morning in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. A resident of Harveys Lake for 19 years, he previously lived for many years on Butler Street in Forty Fort.

He was a past Forty Fort borough councilman. A past secretary of Harveys Lake Borough, he also served as a zoning officer and building inspector. He was a member of the Harveys Lake Planning Commission.

Prior to his illness, he was employed by the Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority. Earlier, he operated his own building contractor business.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Bruce and Vertie Deets Myers.

A graduate of Forty Fort High School, he was also a 1944 graduate of Penn State University, with a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Forty Fort United Methodist Church, and formerly served on its administrative board and was also a past president of the former Couples Club of the church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jacquelin Orme Myers; sons, Richard, Harveys Lake; Bruce, at home; daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Pamela) Bernoski, Trenton, N.J.; brother, Robert, Englewood, Fla.; sister, Mrs. Edna Boston, Jim Thorpe; two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Hugh B. Hughes and Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Dr. William E. Lewis, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday; and 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday.
