Cause:based at Tibenham Station, England. On 12 April 1944, his bomber crashed near Mettet, Belgium, about 10 kilometers northeast of Florennes. Anderson was still at the controls of his bomber when it crashed. His surviving crew members believed that he was trying to prevent the plane, which still had a full payload, from crashing into the villages below. He was initially buried in the cemetery of the community of Gosselies before being transferred to the Ardennes American Cemetery.
