Merrill Applegate, 79, 1523 S. Harrison St., died Sunday at home at 4:15 p.m. after a long illness.

Born March 30, 1911, his parents were Frank C. and Grace (Hendrickson)Applegate.

He was married twice. He and his first wife Letha Loren(Snapp) were married on Feb. 29, 1930. She died in 1965. His second wife, Barbara A.(Ronan)Applegate, survives.

Mr. Applegate retired in 1982 from Shelby Tool and Engineering.

Surviving besides the wife are a daughter, Patricia Cord, Shelbyville; a son, Wilbert Dale Applegate, Florida; a stepdaughter, Debra Boyd, Shelbyville; three stepsons, Lewis Rona, Connersville, Michael Ronan, Shelbyville, Kevin Ronan, Waldron; three brothers, Francis Applegate, Shelbyville, Benjamin and Harold Applegate, Greensburg; two sisters, Mildred McColley, Shelbyville, Rose Marie Scudder, Shelbyville.

Preceding Mr. Applegate in death were one stepdaughter and one brother.

Graveside services will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Murphy's Funeral Home Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
