In the 1860 and 1870 censuses of Morgan Township, Jacob is listed in the household of Philip and Sarah Hall.
Jacob became a farmer in Morgan Township and married Mary Ellen White in 1874. Before 1900 he had become a realtor in Valparaiso. They had three children, one who died young, Edgar J. and William Arthur Hall.
