Mrs. Lorraine Virginia Bennett Crown, 87, of Gaithersburg, died early Thursday morning, May 20, 2010, at Holy Cross Hospital, due to complications from surgery. She was the wife of the late James F. Crown, who preceded her in death in 1999.

Born Dec. 28, 1922, in Boyds, she was the daughter of the late Fletcher Daniel and Carrie Lee Wright Bennett.

Mrs. Crown was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg, and enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Surviving are her children, Jane M. Wilkes and J. Kenneth Crown, both of Gaithersburg; granddaughters, Karen Buete, and Lisa Benton and husband, Charles III, all of Mount Airy; as well as four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two nephews; and a niece.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Crown was preceded in death by siblings, Leroy Bennett and Evelyn Crown; and her son-in-law, John Wilkes, who died in 2002.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Glen T. Stricker, associate pastor of her church, Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
