Retired school teacher Ratliffe Paschall, 94, of Paris died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Paris Healthcare Center.

His wife, Jean Williams Paschall, survives. They were married on May 10, 1974.

His first wife, Velna Gray Douglas Paschall, died in February 1973.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ridgeway Funeral Home.

David Allbritton will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Buchanan.

Named as pallbearers are Holmes and Justin Paschall, Roger and Reston Pritchett, Gregg Lawson, Dewayne Darby and Joe Dalton.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Saturday.

Born Dec. 18, 1919, in Puryear, he was a son of the late Hafford Clark Paschall and Verba Nance Paschall.

Paschall was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paris. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in France.

Paschall retired after 36 years as an agriculture and biology teacher. He taught at schools in Buchanan, McKenzie, Bradford, Puryear and at Grove School.

He made award-winning white oak baskets for many years, was an avid gardener, golfer and fox and bird hunter. He enjoyed tending his vineyard, making cider and wine for more than 50 years.

He also leaves two sons: Martin (Rita) Paschall of Paris and David (Sandra) Paschall of Lago Vista, Texas; one stepdaughter: Mary Ann (David) Horne of Orlando, Fla.; one sister: Mary Ella Darby of Jefferson City;

Six grandchildren: Meredith (Roger) Pritchett of Littleton, Colo., Holmes Paschall of Oklahoma City, Rachel and Andrew Paschall, both of Nashville, Justin Paschall of Austin, Texas, and Hunter Paschall of Lago Vista, Texas; one stepgrandchild: Cammie Horne of Orlando; and four great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a son: Douglas Paschall; five sisters: Viva Ellis, Elizabeth Dalton, Ouida Osborn, Beulah Covington and Phyllis Smith Knopp; and five brothers: Hafford Paschall Jr., and Forrest, Pat, Holmes and Frank Paschall.
