William H. McCoy, 83, a retired DuPont manager died Wednesday, January 14th at Stonegates, Greenville, DE. A lifelong DuPont employee Mr. McCoy held various management positions in Louisville, KY; London, England; and Wilmington, DE. Mr. McCoy attended the Tower Hill School and Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. After graduating with a chemical engineering degree from the University of Virginia, Mr. McCoy started work with DuPont where he stayed until retiring in 1983. In 1959, Mr. McCoy was asked to supervise the building of a plant in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, returning in the fall of 1961. The boys Club of Wilmington was an important charity of Mr. McCoy's where he served on the board of directors for many years. In addition, he was a member of the Wilmington Club, the Vicmead Hunt Club and Wilmington Country Club. Sailing, skiing and waterfowl shooting were his recreational loves. Having grown up sailing small boats and later his own yawl, Mr. McCoy loved nothing more than his weekends on the Chesapeake Bay. Skiing in Vail, CO and duck shooting in Vienna, MD, where he was a founding member of the "Rat and Canvasback" club, were his other great joys. Mr. McCoy will be remembered by his family and friends for his wry sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. His beloved wife, Emily, of 61 years who was always at his side, survives him. In addition, his daughter, Rebecca; and his son, Mac; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson survive Mr. McCoy. Services will be held on Saturday, January 17th at the Trinity Episcopal Church, North Adams and Delaware Ave. in Wilmington, DE at 10 am. Followed by a family interment. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware, 669 South Union Street Wilmington, DE 19805. Arrangements by CHANDLER FUNERAL HOMES.
