Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in El Centro for Robert M. Lemon, 85, of Calexico, who died Friday in his home. The Rev. Richard W. Collin of Grace Lutheran will officiate.

Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.

Mr. Lemon was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Herndon, Penn. He married Mary R. Welliver on Dec. 1, 1938, in Elkton, Md.

Mr. Lemon served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Jacquard in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his tour of duty, he moved his family to the Imperial Valley and started a farming operation, which he continued until his health no longer allowed it. He lived in the Calexico area for the past 55 years.

Mr. Lemon was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was much involved in the building of Grace Lutheran in the early 1950s, and he helped build Faith Lutheran Church in Calexico in the late 1950s.

Mr. Lemon enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, according to his family, and he was a charter member of Calexico Trap Club. He also was a longtime member of the American Legion of Herndon, Penn., and the California Farm Bureau.

According to family, he especially enjoyed time with his family and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dawn Elaine Milam.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lemon of Calexico; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Makly Milam of San Diego and Rose Marie and William Valusek of Calexico; son and daughter-in-law, John and Diane Lemon of Calexico; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
