Fortunatus was the son of John McFadin and Elizabeth Montgomery. His siblings were Nancy, Martha Elizabeth and Joseph. His half-siblings from his father's first wife, Lucinda Davis, were Lucinda and John.

He married Mary M. McDowell on April 15, 1880 in Lafayette County, Missouri. Their two children were John Daniel and Mary Elizabeth.

Death of F.G. McFadin

Fortunatis G. McFadin, an old Confederate soldier and a well know citizen of this community, died at midnight Wednesday, April 3rd, at the residence of John Kitchen where he has been making his home.

Mr. McFadin was born on a boat on the Missouri river, October 10, 1840, while his parents were on their way to this county from Indiana. He was nearly 78 years of age. Mr. McFadin served through the Civil War in Shelby's brigade which made an enviable reputation for its fighting spirit and accomplishment. He is the last of the elder line of the McFadin family. Two children survive him; one son, Daniel McFadin, in the regular army somewhere in France, and one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Hagan, of Joplin, Mo.

The funeral will be held at the Kitchen home on North 19th Street, Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.
