THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. W. R. Bill Appling Jr., age 83, beloved husband of Mrs. Jane Appling, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, December 28, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Bowers officiating. Mr. Appling was a native of Ogelthorpe County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He had worked for Knox Homes for over 19 years before becoming the owner & operator of the Appling Warehouse. He was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.R. and Ruth Appling, a son, Andy Appling, and a brother, Joe Lewis Appling. He is survived by his wife, Jane Appling, Thomson, his son, Kenneth R. Appling, Thomson; his two grandsons, Eric and Jason Appling, both of Atlanta; three sisters, Mary (Rollin) Thaxton, Jeanette (Lanier) Bridges, and Faye (John) Hill, all of Lexington; a brother, Fred Thomas (Eleanor) Appling, Hull, Ga.; an aunt, Ruby Andrews, Lexington; 2 nieces and 4 nephews. Pallbearers will be Shawn Sweeney, Steve Wilson, Tim Shelton, Buzzy Dent, Scott Thaxton, and Marvin Stribling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ferguson Property Fund. Friends may call at the residence or at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.
