BURIED ALIVE.

Sewer in the Cemetery Caved in on Joseph Winn Causing Death
by Suffocation.

The building of the new sewer in Riverside cemetery resulted in a terrible death Monday afternoon when caving ground fell on Joseph Winn who was excavating, causing a slow death by suffocation. The sewer at the point where Winn was working was about ten feet deep and in loose soil. It had been cribbed to keep it from caving but an unexpected fall of ground completely covered the unfortunate workman and before he could be taken out life was extinct.

As soon as the accident occurred assistance was sent for and the body exhumed as quickly as possible. No bones were broken and the unfortunate man had only one or two slight scratches on his person, going to show that death resulted from suffocation.

Deceased was a well to do citizen of this city and was sixty-two years of age. He leaves two daughters in Ironwood, Mrs. Rowell and Mrs. Watters, and a daughter in the west. The funeral was held Friday.
