A. Daniel Chávez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2005.
Dan was born on December 14, 1913, in Monticello, NM to Daniel Chávez and Petra Alderete Chávez.
Dan is survived by his longtime companion, Covie "Mickie" Gurulé, her son, Fred and his wife, Patricia and their children, Robert and Pamela, by his closest cousins, Ben Chávez and his wife, Maria, Jenny Chávez Lucero and her husband, Silas, and their children, Saundra, Michael and Randal, Jody Chávez Cowper and her daughter, Francine and granddaughter, Vanessa, Joe Chávez, Gilford Chávez and his wife, Priscilla and Louie Torrez. Dan will be missed by all of us and also by many other cousins and their families.
Dan graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1931, lived for some years in both California and New York, served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 through 1945, and retired in 1971 from a career with the United States Postal Service. During his retirement years, Dan and Covie enjoyed an active social life of dances and friends at the Senior Centers, especially Palo Duro Center, family gatherings, and travels and cruises. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful caregivers, nurses and doctors of Princeton Place nursing home for the excellent, kind and compassionate care they have given to Dan these past two years.
A Rosary and Communion Service will be held on Friday July 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Gate Of Heaven Chapel and Mausoleum, 7999 Wyoming NE. Deacon Byron Wicker from St. Bernadette Shrine will officiate.
