Helen Garnetta Anderson Coates Landreth, a missionary educator and mother, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at the age of 67, at the Lovingston Health Care Center, after a brief illness with cancer.
Born Sept. 26, 1933, at Flat Ridge, she was a daughter of the late Garnett Edward Anderson and Mamie Rose Long Anderson.
Garnetta was a graduate of Oak Hill Academy, Bluefield College, Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church at Colleen, and a member and treasurer of Avis Dempsey Mission Group of the Piedmont Association in Nelson County.
She is survived by her children, Mildred L. Coates of Amherst, N.Y., Lynda Faucette of Greenville, S.C., and Roderick Coates of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters, Bethany, Carolina and Aimee; and three sisters, Winfred Huddle of Bellingham, Wash., Mildred Ward of Gray, Tenn., and Margaret Morris of Conyers, Ga. Her extended family was her dear and devoted friends, along with those in her church family, and the staff of the Woodland Early Life Learning Center at Colleen, which was an important part of her life.
A funeral service in honor of Garnetta will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Blevins officiating.
Interment will be held at noon Saturday at the Central Cemetery in Flat Ridge.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 this evening at the funeral home, and suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Woodland Early Life Learning Center, 4434 Thomas Nelson Hwy., Arrington, Va. 22922.
