"Bubba," as he was fondly called, enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends and never missed an opportunity to give his candid opinion. He was a "Rock of Gibraltar" for his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Sarah L. MaGee. Those left to cherish his memory include his nephews, Victor L. Roberts Sr. (Brenda) and Elridge M. Tompkins; niece, Alexis R. Colander (Archie); one sister, Odessa M. Tompkins; one sister-in-law, Harlena C. MaGee; one stepson, Lawrence F. Chapman (Alvah) of Norfolk; six grandchildren, James Chapman (Flossie), Lawrence Chapman Jr., Alfred Keith Chapman (Davida), Julie Chapman, Karla Banks (Steven) and Louis Chapman Jr.; his dedicated caregiver, Tina Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, Bute St. Dr. Robert G. Murray will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at the church for the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to READY Academy, 415 Bute Street, Norfolk, VA 23510 or to the Louise W. Eggleston Center, 1161 Ingleside Road, Norfolk, VA 23502. Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St. Chapel, is in charge.
