AUGUSTA -- Robert J. Brooks, 78, of Kendall Street and formerly of Western Avenue, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Gray Birch, following a long illness.

He was born in Charlestown, Mass., on Feb. 3, 1930, a son of the late Alonzo and Beatrice (McFarland) Brooks.

Mr. Brooks was a graduate of Charlestown High School.

He had been employed as a mechanic at several local car dealerships, as well as dealerships in Massachusetts, California and Colorado.

Mr. Brooks was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Marilou (Davis) Brooks; a daughter, Jeannette Eberhart; a brother, Richard Brooks; and a sister, Eva Brooks.

He is survived by seven sons, Joseph Ogon and his wife, Irene, of Vassalboro, Arnold Ogonowsky and his wife, Lan, of Littleton, Colo., Bobby Brooks and his wife, Trish, of Wakefield, Mass., Billy Brooks, of Norfolk, Va., Bruce Brooks and his wife, Linda, of Winthrop, Wayne McAnn and his wife, Robin, of Washington state and Robert Hess, of Virginia; four daughters, Penny Rivers and her husband, Allan, of Augusta, Linda Gagne and her husband, Peter, of Belgrade, Tammy Johnson, of Massachusetts, and Darlene Runyna, of New Hampshire; four brothers, Earl Brooks, Al Brooks, Eddie Brooks and Frank Brooks, all of Massachusetts; two sisters, Helen Peckham, of North Carolina, and Beatrice Laplante, of Vassalboro; 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where a celebration of Robert's life will be held at 7 p.m. after the visiting hours. Burial will be held in the spring in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta.
