The 1870 Census states he was born in Prussia. His parantage has not been established.

Inlisted Frederick, Frederick County MD. Mustered in a Pvt., 20 Aug 1862, mustered out 13 Jul 1865, transfered VRC, 25 Apr 1864. Company D, 6th Maryland Volunteer Inf. His health was altered during the war.

He was no longer able perform manual labor. Both his legs were crippled, developed heart disease and he lost his hearing. He was no longer able to provide for his family.

Children:
(1.) Clara Ellen Conrad, married Upton B. Brown.
(2.) Josephine Conrad, married Comenius Pryor.
