Carl was born in Ohio to Harry and Dorothy Brinkman. His mother passed away when he was five years old and his father left him in the streets of Defiance, Ohio, to make it on his own. He retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service, as a PSGT-E-7 (Platoon Sergeant) and was a veteran of World War II. He worked at V.A. Medical Center Hospital for 18 years.
He always said "The good Lord took care of him all his life, every day and every minute", and if he had a problem, he forgot it yesterday. He never worried and woke up in a new world every day, and every day it was great to be alive. He said God gave him a wonderful life.
He was preceded in death by his dear friend, Sarah "Sally" Sullivan; and many other friends.
