Robert Machek, 61, of Spring Valley died Dec. 17, 2005 in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, following a long illness. Services were held at Barto Funeral Home, DePue. A Mass was at St. Mary's Catholic Church, DePue. The Rev. Kevin Creegan officiated. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery, DePue. Mr. Machek was born Sept. 17, 1944, in Spring Valley to Louis and Mary (Zoran) Machek. He married on July 25, 1970, in St. Mary Catholic Church, DePue.
He was a social studies teacher and coach at DePue High School and was an insurance agent for Mercier Insurance Agency in Spring Valley before retiring. He was a charter member of Delta Upsilon international fraternity and a graduate of Northern Illinois University. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in DePue, DePue Booster club, DePue Men's Club and DePue Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the DePue Democrat Club, for which he served as treasurer for 30 years, and was president of DePue Housing Authority. He was a member of numerous community organizations. Survivors are his wife, two sons and one daughter; one grandchild; one brother, and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents.
