Robert Benedict "Bob" Holland, age 54 of Joplin, Mo. passed away Friday September 7, 2012 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.
Bob was born on April 17, 1958 in Joplin, the son of Paul E. and Rose (Bischoff) Holland. He has been a lifetime area resident, he graduated from Diamond High School in 1976. Bob started working at the age of 14 at Casa Montez, later working for the Pepsi Bottling Company and Able Body. Bob was a member of the ATA in Saginaw, Mo. where he enjoyed playing the bass guitar for the Friday Night Hootenanny. Bob was a longtime member of the Tri-State Dart Association. He also played bass for the Sour Mash Band in which he sang the high parts and was a multi-year winner of the Old Settler's Picnic Beard Contest. Bob enjoyed casinos but most of all spending time with his family at his mother's home and no matter how little Bob had he was always willing to help someone less fortunate or in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Bob is survived by his two daughters; April Holland of Joplin, Raven Holland of the home, his mother, Rose, Joplin, two brothers; Paul E. Holland, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Joplin, Thomas Holland and his wife Colleen of Diamond and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Holland in 2006.
A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday September 10, 2012 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation following the rosary. A private family burial will be held on Tuesday morning.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Raven Holland in care of the mortuary. The family will be at his mother's home.
