ANSONIA — Mrs. Louise M. Della Volpe, 76, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2012, surrounded by her loving family in St. Vincent Hospital. She was the wife of the late Anthony J. Della Volpe.
Born in Ansonia on Nov. 11, 1936, daughter of the late Catherine "Kit" Hennessy and Frederick W. Hummel Sr., she was a lifelong resident of Ansonia. Louise was a graduate of the Assumption School and the Ansonia High School.
She worked as a reporter and society editor for the Evening Sentinel. While employed there she met her future husband, Anthony J. Della Volpe. Louise later worked for many years in the superintendent's office for the Ansonia public schools.
Louise loved to work in her garden and was an avid reader and active member of Assumption parish. Most of all, she was a doting and loving grandmother who never missed a chance to do something for or with her four grandchildren.
Louise was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 42 years, Anthony. She is survived by her daughter and favorite son-in-law Diana and Douglas Varga of Easton; her son Anthony J. Della Volpe Jr. of Shelton; her loving grandchildren, Nathan and Renee Varga and Anthony and Daniel Della Volpe; as well as many loving family members, friends and wonderful neighbors.
Louise was also predeceased by sisters Helen P. Hummel Ifkovic and Catherine McWilliams, and brother Frederick W. Hummel Jr.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. On Monday her funeral will leave the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 North Cliff St., Ansonia at 9 a.m. to the Church of the Assumption for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Assumption School in care of the funeral home.
