Mrs. Gee died Saturday in Tyler following a brief illness.

An East Texas native, she was born Vera Estelle Martin in Carlisle on Jan. 24, 1918, the daughter of the late Sam Carrol Martin and Omie Lee Wesson Martin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer J. Gee in 1994, and is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; one granddaughter; one grandson; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gee was a graduate of Carlisle High School and Federal Business Institute in Tyler. In the early 1950s, she and her husband pioneered Mixon Assembly of God, which they pastored for several years. She was employed as a secretary for the city of Tyler tax department for 25 years before retiring in 1980.

During her retirement years, she enjoyed working with art, especially oil paintings and ceramics, as well as traveling around the United States. Most of all, she loved watching her grandchildren grow up. She was also an active member of Grace Chapel Assembly of God and especially enjoyed being a part of the "Spice of Life" senior citizens activities.

Pallbearers will be Andy Gee, Alton Martin, James Byrd, Leon Watson, Robert Watson, Mike Watson, Kevin Watson, Preston Maxfield and Mike Hilliard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Whitton, Robert Meek, Bob Baker, Dwayne Baker, Rex Jenkins, Glen Malone and Dr. John W. (Bill) Scroggins.

Family visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Lloyd James Funeral Home.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Missions Fund of Grace Chapel Assembly, 17269 U.S. Highway 69 South, Tyler, 75703.
