Mona Beth Gartman Reavis, 84, of Stillwater, Oklahoma died on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Stillwater, OK. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Stillwater. Dr. Tim Walker will officiate. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mona Beth was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 26, 1928, and lived her younger years in Shawnee, Oklahoma with her parents, S.C. and Martha Myrtle Gartman and brother, S.C. "Jay" Gartman, Jr.
She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1946. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University, Tulsa University and graduated from Hillcrest Medical Center Nursing School of Tulsa, Oklahoma in the class of 1950.
Mona Beth married her high school sweetheart, Fred C. Reavis, in 1950 in Shawnee, OK. They had a family of three sons: Joe, Brad and Warren, who they were proud to say all graduated from Oklahoma State University. Fred and Mona Beth enjoyed a marriage of 53 years with Fred predeceasing her in death in 2003.
As a registered nurse Mona Beth practiced in Shawnee, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Muskogee, Oklahoma as well as Kettering Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She moved with her family to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 where she practiced at Stillwater Medical Center until her retirement as Nurse Manager 5th Floor in 1995. She well remembered the move from the "old" Stillwater Hospital to the "new" Stillwater Medical Center. Mona Beth cherished the memories of many young nurses she mentored during her nursing career. She participated in many nursing and hospital organizations during those years.
Mona Beth was a member of the first Baptist Church of Stillwater, OK and attended the Rebecca Sunday School Class where she enjoyed the Keenager activities.
The Stillwater Breakfast Kiwanis Club was very important to Mona Beth where she served as their secretary for 14 years. She accompanied her husband in many Kiwanis activities through the years and in 1997 was presented a George F. Nixon medal for outstanding volunteer service in the community.
Mona Beth was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, most recently the Preceptor Alpha Iota chapter here in Stillwater.
She is survived by her son Joe, his wife Katy and granddaughter Rebecca of Fallbrook, CA. son Brad of Avenger, TX, and son Warren, his wife Lisa of Leavenworth, KS and granddaughter, Liane of Stillwater. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jo Anne Gartman of Pharr, TX .as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Mona Beth was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, husband, Fred C. Reavis and most recently her daughter-in-law, Nima, wife of Brad.
