Death Takes Retired Infantry General

Brig. Gen. Ralph P. Cowgill, U.S. Army (ret.), of 3612 NE Flanders St., died Wednesday at his home. He was 87. Born May 21, 1882, in Springfield, S.D., he was a graduate of Washington State College at Pullman and was a captain in World War I. During World War II he served with the 41st Infantry Division and was commanding officer of the 186th Infantry Regiment.

He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1168, Medford; member of the 41st Division Post of the American Legion and Sixth Army Advisory Committee, the Oregon State Board of Engineer Examiners (retired) and the Mt. Hood Hut No. 1 Retreads.

For 15 years he served with the Oregon State Game Commission.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Mary O'Brien; a brother, Daniel Cowgill of Bremerton, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Ketchum and Mrs. Lorraine Roughton, both of Fresno, Calif., and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Caldwell's Colonia Mortuary with burial in Riverview Cemetery.
