Herbert Sanders, 97 years, 4 months, and 0 days old, passed away quietly after a short illness on December 20, 2012 at The Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center, Ava, MO.


Herb was born August 20, 1915 in Ava, MO, to Aud and Teresa (Day) Sanders. On October 16, 1937 Herb and Stella Ann Denney were united in marriage at Seymour, MO. To this union two sons were born.


Herb was the owner/operator, along with his son Weldon of Sanders Rock Products in Ava. Herb loved to fish, he enjoyed Native American folk lore and was an avid reader. Herb was active with the Douglas County Historical Society and wrote many articles for their journal. You could count on Herb for a good story. Herb served as Secretary on the Ava School Board during the reorganization of the schools. He kept up with current events in the community and the country. Later, after retiring he enjoyed working in his garden. He was a Christian and attended The Ava United Methodist Church.


Herb was preceded by his parents, his wife, Stella, his son Weldon and a sister, Esther.


Herb is survived by son, Harvel Sanders and wife, Susan, Sedalia, MO, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other family and many friends.


The family would like to expess gratitude to The Heart of the Ozarks Health Care and Three Rivers Hospice for the exceptional care given to Herb.

Funeral services for Herb will be Saturday, December 22, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at The Ava United Methodist Church, Ava, MO, with burial in the Denney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Marty Blakey. Memorials may be made to The Ava United Methodist Church. Services conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
