Joseph Yaw was born near Albany, N.Y., April 1st, 1810. When six years old the family moved to Ontario Co., N.Y., where he lived till he was about twenty years of age; then with two or three families he removed to thn the far west, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, where he spent many years of his early manhood in clearing the heavy forests to fertile farms. In the fall of 53 he settled on a farm in Wayne, lived there three years and then removed to Kendall, where he remained until about eight years ago, when he removed to Franklin Co., Iowa, where he passed away May 22d, 1888. He had been an active member of the M.E. church for many years. His home was always a home for the traveling ministers.
